One of the things that I've always been interested in but never really had the time or green-space to pursue is wild mushroom photography, identification, and possibly, consumption. Now that we're situated at our new property on St. Joseph Island, a little bit of mycology may be in my future.
We've noticed that from late August to mid-October we've typically start to have cooler temperatures and wetter weather, and the quantity and variety of wild mushrooms can be really impressive. I've been taking photos of them as I come across them in my travels through our property, and thought I'd include a few examples below.
I've only just started to look into identifying them - if anyone has any input, please let me know. I'm sure some will be poisonous, some merely inedible, and some quite edible (I think we may have some Chicken of the Woods in there, among others), and would really like to figure out as definitively as possible which are which. I just don't want to learn the hard way!
Also included here are two photos that have St. Joseph Island written all over them - Wild Mushrooms growing alongside Puddingstone (properly known as Jasper Conglomerate - a type of quartzite mixed with jasper and other stones that are only found on the island and nearby surrounding mainland area).
